  HE GCCSG and Secretary General of OPEC Discuss Ways to Strengthen the Energy Sector, Especially Energy security, in Light of the Rapid Regional and International Developments that Have Affected Global Energy Markets

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and His Excellency Mr Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), discussed ways to strengthen the energy sector, especially energy security in light of the rapid regional and international developments and conditions that have affected global energy markets, in a way that contributes to enhancing the stability of global oil market prices.

This came during HE Mr Albudaiwi’s meeting with HE Mr Al Ghais, on Sunday (April 28, 2024) in the city of Riyadh, on the sidelines of His Excellency’s participation in the World Economic Forum 2024.

During the meeting, several topics were discussed, most notably the role played by OPEC in supporting the global oil market. Ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides were also discussed, in a way that serves common interests, in addition to reviewing the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.

Moreover, HE the Secretary General of the GCC praised the valuable efforts made by the Organisation and its major and vital role in maintaining the stability and balance of oil markets and facing their future challenges, in coordination with member states.
