His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with Her Excellency Ms Hana Jalloul Muro, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament, on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium.
During the meeting, they reviewed Gulf-European relations and ways to strengthen and develop them in a way that serves common interests. They also discussed several files related to Gulf-European bilateral relations, including updates on the exemption of GCC citizens from the European Schengen visa. In this context, His Excellency praised the positive proposals and support for this issue he heard from members of the European Parliament.
The outcomes of the first European-Gulf Summit, held in Brussels in October 2024, were also discussed, in addition to the visit that the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament will make to Riyadh to meet with His Excellency the Secretary General at the General Secretariat headquarters.
Moreover, they exchanged views on the latest developments in a number of regional and international issues, foremost among them the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing violations by the Israeli occupation forces against the brotherly Palestinian people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Excellency expressed his thanks for the European efforts to lift part of the sanctions imposed on the Syrian Arab Republic, which will contribute to enhancing stability and development for the brotherly Syrian people.
