General Secretariat - Riyadh

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) praised the agreement to merge all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria within the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic.

His Excellency expressed hope that this merger would contribute to supporting the path of stability and development in Syria, and enhance its unity, sovereignty, and independence.

During his statement, His Excellency reiterated the firm position of the GCC, calling on all parties and components of the Syrian people to join efforts, prioritise the higher interests, and uphold national unity, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian brotherly people.

He emphasised the necessity of ensuring the safety of civilians, achieving national reconciliation, preserving the institutions and resources of the Syrian state, integrating armed factions under the umbrella of the Ministry of Defense, and limiting the possession of weapons to the state.

"This is essential for maintaining security and stability in Syria, restoring its regional role and international standing, and supporting all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and inclusive transitional process that meets the aspirations of the Syrian brotherly people for stability, development, and a decent life," His Excellency concluded.
