His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
His Excellency expressed his hope that this agreement would contribute to restoring security and peace in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to its residents, and facilitating the return of displaced persons to their homes.
This follows 15 months of war waged by Israel against the Strip, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, the destruction of infrastructure—including hospitals, schools, and places of worship—and an unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Moreover, His Excellency praised the significant efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States of America, and their diligent work with all concerned parties to reach this agreement.
Furthermore, His Excellency reiterated the unwavering stance of the Cooperation Council states regarding the Palestinian cause and their support for the national rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the guarantee of the rights of refugees.
