His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the 160th Session of the GCC Ministerial Council will be held on the upcoming Sunday, June 9, 2024, in the Qatari capital, Doha, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, with the attendance of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the GCC states.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the Joint Ministerial Meetings between the GCC and the Republic of Turkey, represented by His Excellency Mr Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, and the Republic of Yemen, represented by His Excellency Dr Shaya Mohsin Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen, will be held separately.
In this context, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stressed that the GCC Ministerial Council will discuss during its session a number of reports on the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Council of the GCC issued at the 44th Summit in Doha in December 2023, as well as the memoranda and reports submitted by the Ministerial and Technical Committees and the General Secretariat, related to the joint Gulf work, in addition to issues related to the dialogues and strategic relations between the GCC states and global countries and blocs, as well as discussing the regional and international developments in the region.
Regarding the joint meetings, His Excellency said that, stemming from the GCC states' keenness to intensify and strengthen their relations and partnerships with brotherly and friendly countries and regional and international organisations, the GCC-Turkish meeting will be held on the sidelines of the 160th session of the Ministerial Council, where several topics will be discussed, the most important of which are the joint action plan and ways to enhance cooperation between the GCC and the Republic of Turkey in all fields.
As for the GCC-Yemeni meeting, the situation in the brotherly Yemen will be discussed, and the firm position of the GCC in support of the legitimate government in Yemen and the resolution of the Yemeni crisis through a political solution in accordance with the three references, represented in the GCC Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, will be stressed. Meanwhile, strengthening the joint GCC efforts to assist the brothers in Yemen to ensure their stability and security will be explored during the meeting too, His Excellency stated.
