His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the Council has achieved significant steps and ambitious accomplishments in various fields of joint work during its blessed journey of more than four decades, thus accomplishing an advanced level in implementing its mandated objectives, especially since the aspirations of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries and our Gulf peoples exceed what has been achieved.
This came during His Excellency's speech at the 25th meeting of the Ministerial Committee tasked with following up on the implementation of decisions related to joint work, on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in the Qatari capital, Doha, chaired by His Excellency Mr Hamad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers of the State of Qatar - president of the current session and attended by Their Excellencies, the members of the committee.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the Secretary General extended his highest expressions of gratitude, appreciation, and thanks to His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar and president of the current session of the Supreme Council of the GCC, and to the esteemed government and the dear people of the State of Qatar, for the support and assistance provided by the State of Qatar to the march of joint Gulf work in order to achieve the aspirations of the citizens of the GCC countries towards more cooperation and integration, praying to Allah the Almighty to perpetuate the blessing of security, safety, and prosperity upon the State of Qatar.
His Excellency also pointed out in his speech that the Ministerial Committee tasked with following up on the implementation of decisions related to joint work has achieved significant and ambitious steps and accomplishments in the field of implementing decisions related to joint work, by the grace of Allah and then by the follow-up of Their Excellencies, the members of the committee, by urging various national entities (such as ministries and authorities) to expedite the necessary procedures to ensure the implementation of decisions and activate their role in achieving regional integration, achieving an advanced level in following up on the implementation of the decisions of the esteemed Supreme Council, to push forward the blessed march of the Cooperation Council to achieve the GCC common goals.
His Excellency stressed to the committee members that Gulf integration at all levels, whether economic, commercial, educational, security, military, or other developmental fields, cannot be achieved without completing the issuance of national legislation related to the implementation of the decisions of the esteemed Supreme Council.
Moreover, His Excellency the Secretary General mentioned that the implementation of decisions on the ground is a fundamental pillar for the success of the Cooperation Council system in achieving its objectives and strengthening cooperation among member states.
"Through the effective implementation of decisions, the Council becomes more capable of facing common challenges and achieving sustainable development in the region," His Excellency stressed.
He recalled some points about the positive results of implementing the decisions, the first of which is strengthening integration, where the Cooperation Council's basic system, approved by the founding leaders, emphasised the importance of integration and interdependence as well as belief in a common destiny, and this is manifested through the decisions issued by the Supreme Council, which have contributed and continue to contribute to strengthening economic, political, and social ties between member states, thus enhancing regional integration and strengthening the Council's negotiating position globally.
"Second, achieving stability and security, as the implementation of decisions in the security and military fields leads to addressing common challenges such as terrorism and cross-border crimes, and ensures the stability and safety of the region. Third, achieving sustainable development, as the esteemed Supreme Council attaches great importance to sustainable development, energy, and climate; and the implementation of decisions in this field contributes to creating a sustainable future for future generations," he concluded.
