His Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said that the Cooperation Council countries support the peaceful efforts aimed at resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and stressed the importance of resuming the grain export agreement from Russia and Ukraine across the Black Sea, to facilitate the export of grain and all food and humanitarian supplies to contribute to providing food security for the affected countries.
This came during HE the Secretary General’s meeting with His Excellency Mr. Anatolii Petrenko, Ambassador of the Republic of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Thursday (July 27, 2023) at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
During the meeting, HE the Secretary General cited what was stated in the statement issued by the Supreme Council of the GCC at its 43rd session held in December 2022, in relation to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, stating that the position of the Cooperation Council is based on the principles of international law and United Nations Charter, and the preservation of the existing international order to respect the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity and political independence, not to interfere in their internal affairs, and not to use or threaten force.
His Excellency also mentioned that ways to strengthen GCC-Ukrainian relations were also discussed during the meeting, in addition to what was agreed upon in the first meeting of the strategic dialogue between the Foreign Ministers of the GCC countries and Ukraine held in June 2022, in a way that contributes to serving common interests.
