His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the integration and cooperation among member states have set a model for others to follow on both regional and international stages.

HE the Secretary General’s statement came during his lecture titled “Four Decades of Achievements Toward Integration and Facing Challenges”, delivered on Wednesday (October 2, 2024) at the National Defense College in the Sultanate of Oman.

At the outset of his lecture, HE the Secretary General highlighted the reasons and motivations behind the establishment of the GCC and the objectives it aims to achieve. He also addressed past and current accomplishments, along with future visions for the member states across various fields.

His Excellency noted that the esteemed directives of the founding leaders of the GCC and the current leaders have consistently focused on fostering collaboration, removing obstacles and overcoming challenges to ensure the well-being of their peoples and to guarantee a safe and stable living environment.

Furthermore, he emphasised that the member states have achieved significant milestones and notable progress in various areas of integration and joint cooperation, while he also highlighted the ambitious and constructive steps being taken by the Council member states to enhance economic integration in all its aspects.

Additionally, HE the Secretary General pointed out that the GCC member states have emerged as distinguished strategic players in both the regional and international arenas, solidifying their role as key actors in addressing common challenges and promoting stability and development.

His Excellency discussed the geographical location of the GCC states, which has necessitated their adaptation to a dynamic environment filled with various regional and international challenges. As a response, the member states have adopted unified concepts and strategies, undertaking collaborative efforts within the framework of a comprehensive Gulf vision aimed at ensuring security, stability and sustainable development in the region.

In conclusion, HE the Secretary General expressed his sincere appreciation to the leadership of the National Defense College in the Sultanate of Oman and its staff for their generous invitation and their commitment to enlightening students about the history and achievements of the GCC. He commended the high academic standards of the college, which has dedicated itself to preparing skilled and professional Omani cadres, wishing all students success in their professional and academic pursuits.
