His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the statement issued by the joint meeting on implementing the two-state solution, which was held in the Spanish capital, Madrid. 

The meeting included representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Turkey, the Kingdom of Spain, Ireland, the Kingdom of Norway, and the Republic of Slovenia, in addition to the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

His Excellency also praised the valuable efforts made by the joint ministerial contact group of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, referring to the statement made during the 161st ministerial session, which emphasised the importance of the continued efforts of the ministerial committee chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

This committee was established by the extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit to work towards stopping the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and to mobilise international support for the efforts of the State of Palestine in gaining recognition from more countries, as well as supporting its bid for full membership in the United Nations, in addition to convening an international peace conference.​

His Excellency reaffirmed the steadfast position of the GCC member states in supporting the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over all Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and ensuring the return of refugees, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
