His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the GCC Ministerial Council held its 47th extraordinary meeting today, Tuesday, May 6, 2026, chaired by His Excellency Mr Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, who is the current president of the Ministerial Council, with the participation of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the GCC countries, to discuss updates on the maritime border delineation issue between Kuwait and Iraq beyond marker number 162.
His Excellency indicated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait briefed Their Highnesses and Excellencies on the latest developments with the Iraqi side regarding this issue and what has been achieved.
His Excellency the GCC Secretary General underscored that the Ministers of Foreign Affairs expressed their full and steadfast support for Kuwait's position regarding the maritime border delineation issue between Kuwait and Iraq.
They highlighted the importance of making positive progress on the maritime borders between the two sides and the complete commitment to all minutes of the joint technical and legal committee for maritime border delineation beyond marker number 162.
He also mentioned that the Ministerial Council firmly rejected any infringement on Kuwait's sovereignty over all its territory, islands, and related heights, as well as its entire maritime areas.
