His Excellency General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, received His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Presidential Palace in Baabda, Beirut. His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi was accompanied by His Excellency Mr Abdullah Al Yahya, the Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General reiterated his congratulations to His Excellency the Lebanese President on his election, wishing him success in his efforts to uplift, secure, and advance the Lebanese people and fulfill their aspirations.
Moreover, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stated that the meeting reaffirmed the GCC's steadfast and unwavering support for Lebanon, stressing its commitment to bolstering Lebanon's security and stability and contributing to the sustainable development and prosperity of the Lebanese people.
"The meeting underscored the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions concerning Lebanon, particularly Resolution 1701, and the Taif Agreement, to restore lasting security and stability, ensure respect for Lebanon's territorial integrity, political independence, and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders, and guarantee the Lebanese government's control over all Lebanese territory," His Excellency stated.
