General Secretariat - Riyadh

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with members of the European Union's (EU) Political and Security Committee, chaired by the Committee's Chairwoman, Ms Delphine Pronk, and attended by His Excellency Mr Luigi Di Maio, the EU's Special Representative for the Gulf region at the General Secretariat's headquarters in Riyadh.

During the meeting, various topics were discussed, primarily the outcomes of the first summit between the heads of state and government of the EU member states and the GCC, which took place last October in Brussels, Belgium, under the theme "Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity."

His Excellency the Secretary General emphasised the commitment of both sides, as stated in the joint statement from the first summit, to achieving the Palestinian people's right to self-determination through a two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, as well as the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002.

He noted that this visit falls within the framework of the joint cooperation between the GCC and the EU to elevate collaboration and constructive dialogues that contribute to exchanging views on various issues, as well as opening new areas for cooperation between the two sides.

His Excellency the Secretary General also reiterated the importance highlighted by the leaders of the GCC member states and the heads of state and government of the EU member states in their joint statement, stressing the need to expedite the implementation of the summit's outcomes on the ground. This includes cooperation in economic and trade sectors, ongoing political coordination, and undertaking programs that serve the peoples of both the GCC and the EU.
