His Excellency Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed His Excellency Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the newly appointed Secretary General of the GCC, congratulating him on assuming the duties of his new post starting on February 1, 2023.
HE Dr Al Hajraf wished HE Mr. Albudaiwi all success in performing his duties and fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him at the helm of the General Secretariat to strengthen the process of joint Gulf action to achieve its lofty goals towards more cooperation and integration among the GCC member states in a way that delivers the directives and visions of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states.
Furthermore, HE the Secretary General praised the rich diplomatic career of HE Mr. Albudaiwi, which will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the regional and international status of the Council, protecting its gains and striving towards accomplishing more achievements to serve its member states and the people of the Cooperation Council.
It is noteworthy that HE Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi was born on February 22, 1968, and obtained a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies from University of Oxford from Oxford, England, in 1993, and a B.S. in Mass Communications from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A, in 1991. Throughout his career, His Excellency held several positions, including Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the United States of America from 2022 to 2023, Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg from 2017-2022, Head of Mission of the State of Kuwait to the European Union from 2017 to 2022, Head of Mission of the State of Kuwait to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) from 2016 to 2022, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Kingdom of Belgium from 2016 to 2022, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Korea from 2013 to 2016, Deputy Director, Department of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 2012 to 2013, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the United States of America in 2011, Counselor at the Mission at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the United States of America in 2017, First Secretary at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the United States of America in 2001, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to Austria and at the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in Vienna from 1997 to 2001, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to Japan from 1993 to 1997, and Diplomatic Attaché, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State of Kuwait, from 1991 to 1992.
His Excellency has several international participations, including being a member in the delegation of the State of Kuwait to the meetings of the 26th session of the GCC-EU Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting in Brussels in February 2022, Head of Kuwait Delegation to SOM III Yemen Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting in June 2021, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the International Donor’s Conference on Albania in February 2020, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the Yemen Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting in February 2020, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the Second Annual Review of the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Centre in November 2019, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the International Solidarity Conference on the Venezuelan Refugee & Migrant Crisis in October 2019, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the AHLC Meeting – Senior Official Level in April 2019, in addition to the Head of Kuwait Delegation to the Somalia Partnership Forum - Ministerial Meeting in July 2018, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the International Conference on the Victims of Ethnic & Religious Violence in May 2018, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the Kuwait Economic Forum (Kuwait Vision2035) held in Brussels in February 2018, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the AHLC Extraordinary Meeting in January 2018, and Head of Kuwait Delegation for Policy Advisory Group meeting between the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative Members (ICI) and NATO - Kuwait City in January 2018.
HE Mr. Albudaiwi also participated as Head of Kuwait Delegation for Policy Advisory Group meeting between the Istanbul. Cooperation Initiative Members (ICI) and NATO – Doha in November 2016, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan in October 2016, Guest Speaker for the Policy Seminar on Muslim Friendly Korea in June 2016, Head of Kuwait Delegation at the Water Forum in April 2016, Guest Speaker at Korea Times Middle East Committee Meeting in March 2016, in addition to participating in the 14th Republic of Korea – UN Joint Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation issues held in December 2015, Head of Kuwait delegation in the Kuwaiti - Korean economic forum In World Trade Centre – Seoul in November 2015, taking part in the 12th Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum “Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and People” in October 2015, the 13th Republic of Korea – UN Joint Conference on Disarmament and Non- Proliferation Issues “Looking Ahead: Opportunities and Challenges in Disarmament and Non-Proliferation in December 2014, Head of Kuwait Delegation to the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2014 (PP-14) in October 2014, and attending the Working Group Meeting on Syria in December 2013, the 12th UN-ROK Joint Conference on Disarmament & Non-Proliferation Issues “Non-Proliferation Regime in the 21st Century: Challenges and Way Forward” in November 2014.
Moreover, His Excellency was the member of the State of Kuwait Negotiation Team for the Trade and Investment Agreement (TIFA) with the United States of America from 2003 to 2008, member of the State of Kuwait Delegation to the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency from 1997 to 2000, Member of the State of Kuwait Delegation to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation from 1997 to 1999, and Member of the State of Kuwait Delegation to the Summit of the Non Allied Movement in 1992. He received the 2015 Best Ambassador Award at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the 2014 Distinguished Patron Award by Asia Society Korea Center.
