His Excellency Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted the Kurdistan region of Iraq, which violate the sovereignty of Iraq and threaten the security and stability of the region. HE the Secretary General affirmed the GCC's rejection of anything that would prejudice the sovereignty, security and stability of Iraq.
This came during HE the Secretary General’s reception of His Excellency Dr Abdul Sattar Al Janabi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Thursday (September 29, 2022), at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
During the meeting, HE Dr Al Hajraf stressed the importance of strengthening the bonds of joint cooperation between the GCC and the Republic of Iraq, in order to serve common interests.
Additionally, the officials discussed a number of issues of common interest, most notably a review of the GCC-Iraqi relations and the means to strengthen them, as well as the developments of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between both sides in 2019.
They also discussed the importance of pushing joint work teams towards implementing the joint action plan in the areas of GCC-Iraqi cooperation and the electrical interconnection programme, in addition to reviewing the latest developments in the regional situation and issues of common interest.
