The 24th meeting of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the ministers responsible for environmental affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries was held on Sunday (April 3, 2022) via video conference.

The meeting was headed by HE Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Presidency State), with the participation of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the ministers responsible for environmental affairs in the GCC countries, and HE Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary General of the GCC. 

During the meeting, the attendees expressed gratitude and appreciation to Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states, for the success of the current 42nd session of the GCC Supreme Council, and for the great support and care provided to the Cooperation Council, especially in the environmental field.

The attendees congratulated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the occasion of being selected to host the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP28), and they affirmed their support for the efforts exerted in hosting this session, as well as supporting the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt in organising COP27.

The ministers took the necessary measures to implement the decisions of the Supreme Council related to the environmental approaches of the GCC countries 2020, and the implementation of the strategic plan of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Environmental Affairs, and developments regarding the launch of the GCC Environmental Portal, in addition to developments in the progress of work in the projects of the GCC Green Initiative, and the relevant international environmental agreements.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of cooperation projects with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Morocco, the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the environmental field.
