His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received today, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the General Secretariat in Riyadh, His Excellency Mr Christophe Farnaud, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, they reviewed and discussed the preparations for His Excellency the GCC Secretary General's visit to Brussels to participate in the Ninth Brussels Conference on Syria and to meet with several senior officials of the EU, including His Excellency Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, Her Excellency Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, and Ms Hannah Neumann, Vice Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, there will be an extensive meeting with the Political and Security Committee of the EU to discuss Gulf-European relations and ways to enhance them within the framework of the strategic partnership, extending the friendship and cooperation between both sides.
They also reviewed the outcomes of the first summit of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC member states and the heads of state and government of the EU member states, which was held in October 2024 in Brussels under the title "Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity."
Furthermore, they discussed the preparations for the upcoming Gulf-European ministerial meeting scheduled for October in Kuwait.
