  HE GCCSG Commends Qatar Central Banks Efforts in Hosting the 2024Arab Banking Conference which is an Important Event for Exchanging Ideas and Experiences on Ways to Support Sustainable Development and Enhance the Role of the Banking Sector in Achieving it

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), praised the efforts of the Qatar Central Bank in hosting the 2024 Arab Banking Conference, which is an important event for exchanging ideas and experiences on ways to support sustainable development and enhance the role of the banking sector in achieving it.
 
This statement was made during his participation in the 2024 Arab Banking Conference themed "Sustainable Development Requirements and the Role of Banks," organised by the Union of Arab Banks in the Qatari capital, Doha, on September 10-11, 2024. 

The conference, held under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Shaikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, feature a group of specialists from the economic and financial sectors in the Arab world, as well as representatives from Arab banks and financial institutions.

His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stated that such conferences effectively highlight current economic challenges while finding innovative solutions to enhance the role of financial institutions in meeting the requirements of sustainable development. 

He noted that Qatar has demonstrated its ability to organise and host significant regional and global events, reflecting its commitment to supporting Arab economic cooperation and enhancing dialogue among various stakeholders. 

"This conference represents an important opportunity to deepen discussions on the roles that banks can play in financing major projects and sustainable infrastructure, through continued coordination and cooperation among Arab countries to achieve shared goals in economic development," His Excellency said.

In conclusion, he commended the leading role of the GCC banks in supporting and growing the Gulf economies through financing and investment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, stimulating intra-regional trade, advancing financial technology, enhancing financial stability, investing in infrastructure, and fostering regional and international cooperation. 

He emphasised that these aspects are part of the strategic role of GCC banks in supporting economic growth and enhancing financial sustainability in the GCC countries.
