HE GCCSG: The Digital Cooperation Organisation has a Major Role in Promoting Digital Inclusion, Advocating for Fair Policies and Encouraging Innovation

General Secretariat – Riyadh
His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said that the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) has a major role in promoting digital inclusion, advocating for fair policies and encouraging innovation.

This came during HE the Secretary General’s speech at the special internal meeting of the DCO, held on Sunday (August 4, 2024) in Riyadh, at the invitation of Her Excellency Ms Dima Al Yahya, Secretary General of the DCO.

During his speech, His Excellency touched on the development of the digital economy and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, which will bring about major transformations and unprecedented growth. He emphasised that these changes will create new markets and increase economic growth. Furthermore, he stressed that these significant transformations require joint efforts to ensure that everyone benefits from them and that economic disparities are not exacerbated.

Moreover, HE the Secretary General pointed out that the challenges facing building and managing emerging organisations require formulating a shared vision for stakeholders and developing key strategies to overcome these challenges, including building trust, setting clear goals, and maintaining transparent communication.

His Excellency also reviewed the level of cooperation between the General Secretariat and the DCO, and that the two secretariats signed a Memorandum of Understanding between them, aiming to accelerate digital transformation and enhance cooperation in areas such as digital trade, artificial intelligence, and digital government.

At the end of his speech, HE the Secretary General praised the contributions of the DCO in organising roundtables to address issues such as the digital skills gap, digital rights, misinformation on the internet, and the role of women in the communications and information technology sectors.
