  HE the GCCSG Meets with the Foreign Minister of Australia and Emphasises the Important Role of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference in Discussing Prospects for Regional Cooperation in Security and Inclusive Growth for all in the Region

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised the important role of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference hosted by Australia in discussing prospects for regional cooperation in security and inclusive growth for all in the region.

This came during his meeting with Her Excellency the Foreign Minister of Australia, Ms. Penny Wong, today, Friday, February 9th, 2024, in Perth, Australia, on the sidelines of his participation in the conference.

The meeting discussed the GCC-Australian relations and ways to enhance them to contribute to strengthening the economic and trade interests of both sides.

The two sides also reviewed the latest developments and issues related to regional and international affairs, particularly regarding the crisis in Gaza, and the importance of international efforts to address it in order to contribute to protect stability and security in the region and the world.

His Excellency expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the government of Australia for organising the 7th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference, which is an important platform that brings together policymakers, diplomats, scientists, and experts from around the world with the aim of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Furthermore, His Excellency affirmed that the invitation of the General Secretariat of the GCC to this conference is a testament to the international and regional standing enjoyed by the Council. It is evidence that countries and organisations are keen to strengthen their relationship with the GCC at all levels, he underlined.
