His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the member states have enhanced their cultural status on both regional and global levels through their rich cultural heritage, enlightened openness to all civilizations, and collaborative planning for the cultural journey within the GCC.
This statement was made during the 28th meeting of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Ministers of Culture of the GCC states, held today, Thursday, October 3, 2024, in the Qatari capital, Doha. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, the State of Qatar’s Minister of Culture and current chair. The meeting was attended by Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Ministers of Culture from the member states.
At the beginning of his speech, His Excellency expressed his highest gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar and the President of the Supreme Council in its current session, for his noble directives to provide all forms of support for the cultural journey of the GCC states, which has had a clear and evident impact on the cultural landscape of the member states.
He praised the efforts of the Committee of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Ministers of Culture of the GCC states, which have led to the adoption of numerous resolutions and significant cultural achievements, enabling our countries to confidently advance towards global competitive arenas.
During the meeting, the Ministers of Culture discussed several items on the agenda related to supporting the cultural efforts within the GCC. Key topics included the Cultural Strategy for the GCC 2020-2030, a report on the activities of the Translation and Arabization Centre, which includes a set of important studies that highlight the recent developments in the field of translation, as well as topics related to international cooperation in the cultural domain, along with various items, proposals, and shared GCC visions.
