  HE GCCSG: Their Majesties and Highnesses Leaders of GCC Countries Dedicate Great Attention to Agriculture and Food Security, Especially Following Global Crises and the Accompanying Rapid Changes That Affected Global Food Security and Its Supply Chains

His Excellency Mr Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said that Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the Cooperation Council countries dedicate great attention to agriculture and food security, especially following the global crises and the accompanying rapid changes that affected global food security and its supply chains, requiring cooperation and coordination of efforts at all regional and international levels.

HE the Secretary General’s statements came during his speech at the 34th meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers Responsible for Agriculture and Food Security in the GCC countries, held on Thursday (September 28, 2023) in the Omani capital, Muscat.

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Sultanate of Oman, Chairman of the current session, with the participation of Their Excellencies the Ministers Responsible for Agriculture and Food Security in the GCC countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Secretary General extended gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said, Sultan of Oman, Chairman of the current session of the Supreme Council of the GCC, and to Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the Cooperation Council countries, for their constant support to strengthen joint Gulf action in various fields, especially in the field of agriculture and food security, wishing the government and people of the Sultanate of Oman continued progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty.

Moreover, His Excellency indicated during his speech that there are several countries taking precautionary measures to ensure their food security, such as not exporting a certain commodity or rationing its export, and therefore he stressed that the GCC countries must adopt these policies and prepare plans to ensure its food security and the confrontation of such policies.
 
During the meeting, multiple unified systems, laws and plans between the Cooperation Council countries were discussed and reviewed by Their Excellencies the Ministers Responsible for Agriculture and Food Security in the GCC countries, aimed at contributing to strengthening food security and agriculture, and pushing forward the process of joint action, to further reinforce the gains of GCC economic nationality.
