Page ContentHis Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said that the Council's countries are essential partners of the United Nations (UN) and have a major role in promoting security and peace at the regional and international levels.This came during his meeting with His Excellency Mr. Gilles Michaud, UN Under Secretary General for Safety and Security, today, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, on the sidelines of His Excellency Mr. Albudaiwi's participation in the meetings of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, the United States of America. His Excellency highlighted that the meeting involved a comprehensive discussion and review of the cooperative efforts between the GCC and the UN in matters related to safety and security. Moreover, various topics and issues of shared interest were examined.His Excellency the Secretary General praised the commendable efforts of the Safety and Security Division in safeguarding the well-being of UN staff and ensuring the security of UN buildings and offices worldwide. These measures are essential in facilitating the UN's mission, activities, and programmes with utmost safety and security, stated His Excellency. On his part, His Excellency Mr. Michaud expressed his happiness with the level of security and safety provided by the GCC countries to the headquarters and missions of the UN in their territories.
