  HE the GCCSG: The Joint Ministerial Meeting between the GCC and the UK Reviewed Free Trade Agreement Negotiations Between the Two Sides

His Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the joint ministerial meeting between the GCC countries and the United Kingdom reviewed the progress achieved for the partnership between the two sides, including the free trade agreement negotiations.


This came during His Excellency’s participation in the joint ministerial meeting between Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of the GCC countries and the United Kingdom, today, Monday, September 18, 2023, on the sidelines of the meetings of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, the United States of America.  

 The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and Chairman of the current session. 

During his speech, His Excellency stressed that this meeting comes to strengthen the strategic partnership in all fields, including political, defence, security, commercial and cultural partnership, and to confront the challenges facing the region and the world.

Furthermore, His Excellency the Secretary General stated that during the meeting, many regional and international topics and issues were discussed, and the British side was also informed of the statement issued by the Ministerial Council of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of the GCC in their coordination meeting yesterday. The statement addressed the latest updates in the ongoing developments with the sisterly Republic of Iraq, specifically regarding the ruling of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court and the negative effects stemming from it.

Moreover, His Excellency also indicated that the GCC countries and the United Kingdom always seek to work together to maintain peace, security, stability, prosperity, and fruitful cooperation in areas that serve the common interests of the two sides.
