  The Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations holds a Virtual Meeting with the European Union

Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, participated in a virtual meeting on Wednesday, 15 May 2020 with officials of the European Commissioner for Trade and the European External Action Service (EEAS). 
During the meeting, they discussed the sticking points in the free trade negotiations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union, and the progress made in implementing the joint cooperation agreement. They also discussed the two sides' efforts to deal with the emerging corona pandemic, and its economic and social impacts. 
The Assistant Secretary General indicated that the 1988 cooperation agreement and the programs emanating from it, aim to strengthen relations with the European Union, including political and security coordination. The European Union is one of the most important trading partners of the GCC states, as the trade exchange between the two sides exceeded $ 150 billion in 2019, in addition to mutual investments and trade in services.
