  The GCC and the United Kingdom discuss Means of Cooperation within the Framework of their Strategic Partnership

The GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek met on Wednesday, 11 March 2020, at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh, the Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Richard Oppenheim.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the GCC-UK Strategic Partnership, which started after the summit between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United Kingdom in December 2016 in the Kingdom of Bahrain. They also discussed the mechanisms of cooperation within the framework of their joint action plan in various fields, including political, economic, security, environment, and climate change fields, in addition to the simplification of visa procedures for the GCC citizens.
The start of free trade negotiations between the two sides was also discussed after the UK’s exit from the European Union during January 2020, as the British side emphasized that the conclusion of a free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council is one of Britain’s most important priorities.
