  The GCC and the United Nations discuss Means of Joint Cooperation

The GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, met on Monday, 10 June 2019, at the GCC headquarters, Ms. Rosemary A. DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, and her accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed the ongoing joint cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United Nations, and the implementation of memorandums of understanding between both sides, in addition to the latest political developments in the Middle East.

The UN Under-Secretary-General commended the GCC efforts supporting the stability and development of the region, and stressed the importance of the partnership between the United Nations and the GCC in all areas, especially with regard to the Middle East, the importance the United Nations attach to the implementation of the memorandums of understanding between the two sides and the United Nations readiness to develop mechanisms of dialogue and partnership between both sides in all areas.

The Assistant Secretary General reviewed the GCC States' efforts and their effective role dealing with the political and security challenges facing the countries of the region, pointing out the GCC efforts to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the three references; the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC), and the Security Council resolution 2216, in addition to the development and humanitarian aid the GCC States provide to Yemen.
