  Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council participates in the FATF Ministerial Meeting

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani participate in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Ministerial Meeting, held on Friday, 12 April 2019, in Washington. The meeting was on the margins of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank meeting, with the participation of ministers, and representatives of member states and international organizations competent in this area, and international experts and specialists in monetary, finance, and Combating Terrorist Financing.

 

During the meeting they discussed a number of issues related to protecting the integrity of the international financial system, means of countering Terrorist Financing, money laundering, and weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation, as well as a number of financial reports on this regard. The Ministers praised the important role played by the group and their keenness to support and develop its functions and roles.

 

The Group affirmed in their communiqué their commitment to combat Terrorist Financing, money laundering, and weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation, as threats to international security and the international financial system stability, and their determination to pursue all sources, channels and technologies used in Terrorist Financing, money laundering, and weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation.

The communiqué stated that the World is facing a difficult situation today, and the FATF will work to meet the challenges and any challenges that the international community will set, including the UN Security Council and the G20, and would work to stop and prosecute criminals and their criminal networks, including transnational crime, and prevent them from exploiting the financial system in organizing crime and corruption.
