Starting
from the brotherly and neighborly ties between the GCC States and the Republic
of Iraq, and their common interests, common destiny and lofty goals aimed to achieve
the well-being and development of their peoples; In addition to the joint
desire of both sides to implement the high directives of their governments, and
their keenness to strengthen relations between the GCC states and the Republic
of Iraq.
The GCC
held a joint meeting on Wednesday, 10 April 2019, at the GCC headquarters, in
Riyadh. The meeting was chaired by, Dr. Abdelaziz Hamad Aluwaisheg, the GCC
Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, and Mr. Nizar
Al-Khairallah, the Iraq's Senior Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, with the
participation of a number of representatives and specialists on both sides.
During the
meeting they discussed means to strengthen the existing relations between the
GCC States and the Republic of Iraq in the economic, political, security,
cultural and media fields, as well as education, health and sports, in the
light of the joint work plan agreed upon by both sides for the period from 2019
to 2024.
The two
sides agreed on the following:

Strengthen political, strategic and
security coordination between both sides, with the aim of enhancing security
and stability in the region.
·
The coordination and cooperation between both
sides in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
·
Strengthen economic relations within the
framework of the joint work plan in the areas of trade, industry, investment,
oil, energy, and agriculture, in addition to the private sector.
·
Enhancing cooperation in the educational,
cultural, media, youth, sports and environment fields.
The two
sides agreed to form a joint committee to follow-up, and maintain the
coordination and consultation between the GCC Secretariat and the Republic of
Iraq, in order to implement what was agreed upon.
