  Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council meets with the Permanent Observer of the UN University for Peace

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani met on Tuesday, 26 February 2019, at the GCC UN-mission  headquarters, in Geneva, Mr. David Fernandez Puyana, the Permanent Observer of the UN University for Peace.

During The meeting they discussed the efforts exerted by the university to enhance cooperation with the countries of the world in promoting the values of peace, security and sustainable development, and the prospects for joint cooperation between the GCC and the UN University for Peace in regards to research, educational programs and studies, as well as training the competencies in various fields.

A memorandum of understanding was signed during the meeting between the GCC General Secretariat and the UN University for Peace, providing the establishment of consultations between both sides, and the framework of a joint cooperation to develop academic knowledge and skills, and raise awareness through the implementation of a number of joint educational programs and initiatives.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on behalf of the GCC by, Mr. Adel Al-Mahri, the GCC Ambassador to the UN, and Mr. David Fernandez Puyana, the Permanent Observer of the UN University for Peace.

On this occasion, The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed that signing the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the GCC efforts to promote peaceful cooperation and sustain its future as an effective international and regional organization, and achieving the GCC visions and plans of sustainable development for its people and the region.

Dr. Al-Zayani commended the UN University for Peace active role in promoting international peace and security, and advancing the sustainable development efforts of the States and peoples through its training and educational programs, to build both individual and institutional capacities, In order to achieve the objectives and noble principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

The meeting was attended by, Mr. Hamad Rashid Al Marri, the Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs, and the Secretary-General accompanying delegation.
